Course Overview
This course provides the basic foundations of five main systems of the Balance Method/System. The systems are rooted in the concept of healing the body by balancing meridians. Student will learn the history of the Balance Method/System, the basis of each of the Five Systems, and the logical processes for determining the meridians to acupuncture, including an easy-to-use format to outline the treatment plan. Learn how to apply the quick, efficient results effectively! Particular attention will be paid to musculo-skeletal conditions in this introductory level. Pre-requisite: A license to practice Acupuncture legally within your jurisdiction, with a minimum 250 hours of Acupuncture training.
Objective
  • Understand the development of the six systems/strategies.
  • Be able to identify the name and numbers of the six systems/strategies and describe how each balances a meridian.
  • Learn how to apply a mirror and imaging concept to choose the acupuncture points on the body, and locate specific acupuncture points within the Balance Method/System.
  • Be able to follow the steps used in the Balance Method/System to diagnose and treat health conditions.
  • Be able to diagnose which meridians are sick and apply a treatment plan.

    Lecture theory of System I: Ming.

    45 min - 1.25 hrs

    Holography ? The Mirror and Imaging format. The 5 Step approach.

    System 1 protocol.

    1.5 hrs - 2 hrs

    Lecture of theory of System II: Bie-Jing and System II protocol.

    2 hrs - 2.5 hrs

    Lecture of theory of System III: Biao-Li and System III protocol.

    Discussion of cases of chronic pain disorders and the use of the Balance Systems.

    2.75 hrs - 3 hrs

    Review of Systems I to III.

    Lecture of theory of System IV: Opposite Clock and System IV protocol.

    3.25 hrs - 3.5 hrs

    Lecture of theory of System V: Neighbour Clock and VI: He. Systems I to V review.

    Discussion of cases of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Disorders and the 6 Systems.

    About Sonia Tan

    Dr. Sonia F. Tan, BA, BA(H), DTCM Dip, DAOM, RAc, RTCMP, has been helping guide people on their pathway to health in the TCM world since 2006. She is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM degree), a Registered Acupuncturist, and a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner. Dr. Sonia Tan obtained her clinical research Doctorate degree from Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles, California. She is also a graduate of the five year Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine program from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Vancouver. Dr. Sonia F. Tan is one of few certified Gold Level practitioners of the late Dr. Richard Tan. With the blessings of fellow senior students to pass on the Balance Method legacy, Dr. Sonia Tan developed and created the very first Balance Method / System Acupuncture Certificate program at an accredited public post-secondary institution – Langara College – launched in 2018. In 2010, Sonia was honoured to be named and be a part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Medical Teams. Dr. Sonia Tan has been teaching and keynote speaking at various conferences, institutions, and seminars since 2013. Sonia began her career in health with a Bachelor’s degree in Honors Kinesiology, with a specialization in Athletic Injuries, from the University of Western Ontario. Sonia has also completed many adjunct and advanced therapy courses, such as Sound Healing, TCM Clinical Aromatherapy & Essential Oils, Dr. Richard Tehfu Tan’s Balance Method (one of few Certified Gold-Level practitioners), and Dr. Jeffrey Yuen & Dr. Yvonne Farrell’s Eight Extraordinary Vessels approach, that she continually uses in her practice. In addition, following in her grandfather’s footsteps and the classical umbrella of Chinese Medicine, Sonia completed apprenticeships in Chinese Metaphysics and its application to Chinese Medicine, in the areas of Chinese Astrology, Face Reading, and Classical Feng Shui. She is a direct and first graduating class disciple of the late Grandmaster Dr. Richard Tehfu Tan, and as well has trained with and is certified under Master Marlyna Los. Sonia is also an ongoing student of a variety of Martial Arts since 1995, and is grateful to her Shifu the late Dale Johns for her foundation, and to Shifu Matthew Dyck for continuing to guide her along this path. While Dr. Sonia Tan enjoys variety and a general practice, her areas of passion and focus are in Immunology, Sport Medicine and Migraines & Headaches. Following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Sonia is immersed in all aspects of Chinese Metaphysics, and thoroughly enjoys educating and inspiring about all things Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine!
