Course Overview
Depression is one of the most commonly seen disorders. It is estimated to affect roughly 350 million people throughout the world, both in developed countries as well as developing countries. The WHO assesses that by the year 2020 depression would be the second most influencing cause of debilitated quality of life. Antidepressant medication side effects include: Sluggishness, drowsiness, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, increased/loss of appetite, weight gain, loss of sexual appetite, blurred vision, insomnia and depression.

From one aspect, Dr. Robidoux summarizes a 5 year long research carried out at "The Affiliated Brain Hospital" in Nanjing which has proven and confirmed that acupuncture has important advantages in treatment of depression when compared with SSRi without showing any negative side effects. She also brings about effective treatment protocols and approaches to treat the syndrome causing depression and other psychosomatic disorders such as OCD and anxiety.

From another aspect, Dr. Robidoux presents a classical approach to understand the mechanism of the body and mind causing depression from different internal and external aspects. She covers the diagnostic methods and the treatments to reverse the progression and resolve the symptoms successfully. By providing a short introduction of the two main classical Chinese medicine approaches, Dr. Robidoux increases the understanding of the body and mind connection in depression to bring a clear understanding of the effective treatment protocol for different patient types.

This was and inspiring course and has changed the way I see Chinese medicines potential. Having learned mostly TCM I was struggling with why treatments weren't working sometimes. This Classical CM approach may allow me to help more people, and help them more efficiently. Thank you.

    Rebekah P.- Australia

The instructor is quite educated and explains her information clearly. This shows how depression can be the root of many more physical ailments.

This was a fantastic course that really gives a current practitioner of acupuncture or Chinese medicine a better idea of how to put what they know into better, more focused practice. Her demos and hands-on needling demonstrations are very useful. This was my first introduction to Ms. Roubidoux but I do highly recommend this particular course to anyone who deals particularly with stroke or post-stroke rehab patients in their practice.

    Daryl F.- Canada

I studied Zhu Scalp Acupuncture which was good, but, not helpful in learning how to treat depression. She has easy to follow protocols, easy to learn as she is very clear and mentally organized. Great use of case studies as she provides them succinctly. She shares convincing and inspiring stories of recovery of not just depression but also many other mental health problems. Camera work on the scalp needling makes it easy to see. Likely you will learn and remember a lot you can put into practice right away. Good integration of how to use herbs, but the emphasis is on new and helpful view and treatment of depression. She's positive and has a nice voice also.

One of the best online lectures I have ever taken. I have a much deeper understanding of the topic and have clear treatment strategies that I can use tomorrow. I plan to take the second course now.

    About Suzanne Robidoux

Dr. Suzanne Robidoux has lived in China and Taiwan for the last 17 years studying with various masters with a focus on classics and clinical practice. She started by spending three years in the south of Taiwan to master mandarin while learning with masters. Then she moved to Nanjing and completed her Ph.D. in acupuncture at the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine in 2007. During her doctorates, she focused her studies and research on treating neurological disorders and psychological disorders as well as severe depression. One of these masters was Dr. Lu Qian at the Neurological Hospital (direct lineage of doctor Jiao Shu Fa). During her apprenticeship with Dr. Lu, Suzanne learned the most effective ways to treat severe cases of post-stroke coma, paralysis, hemiplegia, multiple sclerosis, Meniere’s diseases and so on. Over 90% of the patients would receive cranial acupuncture with body acupuncture. The second master, Dr. Tao Kun, is famous for his needling technique and his moxibustion techniques and efficacy on post-stroke paralysis and various musculoskeletal diseases. Suzanne came to Beijing in 2007 and worked with several masters all over China to bring their life’s work to the printing press and make the knowledge available to the West. She translated and edited over 20 professional Chinese medical textbooks related to acupuncture and Chinese medicine, during which she had the chance to work with Dr. Shi Xuemin, specialist in neurological disorders and famous for getting the best results with his needling technique. In the West, he is known to be the treating doctor from Tianjin in the documentary “9000 Needles”. Suzanne is now the chief acupuncturist of the Neurological and Post-Stroke Department at the Yanda Health City in Beijing. She also works at the Suicide Prevention Center in Beijing to contribute to the benefit of society providing acupuncture treatment severe cases of depression and suicidal tendencies. On her free time she continues to research classical texts such as the Zhou yi and the Zhenjiu Dacheng as well as the Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue.
