Course Overview
In this course Bob Quinn, DAOM, L.Ac. shares the Projective Dreamwork methodology of Jeremy Taylor-- which is remarkably consistent with Chinese classical sources, most notably the Ling Shu-- and shares how to use it to unravel the medical information that is hidden in patient dreams in symbolic form. He demonstrates irrefutably, based on the Nei Jing, that dreamwork is a part of our classical tradition.

These dream images are particularly helpful in cases of complex disease such as Chronic Lyme Disease. Patient dreams can deliver important insights into diagnosis and treatment that might otherwise have been missed in the normal patient interview. In this way we become more effective practitioners.
Objective
  • The student will learn to parse patient dream images in symbolic Chinese Medicine terms, e.g., find a repeated theme of yin or yang in a dream
  • The student will learn to ask clarifying questions of a patient, so as to arrive at a deeper understanding of the dream
  • The student will learn to group symbols so as to identify repeated themes, e.g., summer, red car, sacred ceremony, horse, dog, FIRE element
  • The student will learn to avoid literal interpretations of dream occurrences and to favor symbolic interpretations
  • The student will learn the many faces of yin and yang as they can appear in patient dreams.

    About Bob Quinn

Bob Quinn, DAOM, L.Ac. has been a full-time Associate Professor of Chinese Medicine at National University of Natural Medicine in Portland since 2009; before that, he taught and supervised at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. He first entered acupuncture practice in 1998 with a master’s degree from OCOM, and later returned to earn his doctoral degree in Chinese Medicine in 2008. Since 1999, Bob has been studying various Japanese styles of acupuncture, bodywork, and moxibustion. He has published many articles in his field, as well as book reviews and interviews with noted authorities. In his practice Bob is committed to the gentle approaches developed in Japan; he finds in these styles a good match for patients suffering from chronic illness, and he enjoys the challenge of helping these patients recover. He has studied shiatsu, traditional Thai massage, Sotai, and qigong tuina. His style of acupuncture is informed by all these studies in bodywork, giving him a very gentle, hands-on approach. At the end of a treatment, his goal is for a patient to feel renewed and transformed in mind and body.

    *CEU/CPD Approvals

Some accreditation bodies have course approval expirations. If the approval expires, you will see a notice next to the name with a date of expiration: "[Until YYYY/MM/DD]". Please factor this date into your own renewal deadline. If an approval expires, you will be able to request that it is renewed and we will submit it for you within 2 business days. Renewals normally come back to us after 30 days. If your accreditation body is not listed under the "Approved" section, you may find it under the "Pending" section. That means that it is either currently pending approval, or that it is available for you to request: "[Upon Request]". New course approvals usually come back to us after 45 days. We use an automated system within our platform that allows you to make these requests in an easy and convenient way. Just visit the course page in your Net of Knowledge account and click the "Request Approval" button at the top. Each "Course and CEUs/CPDs" purchase grants you 1 request per accreditation body. If you request a course approval and do not complete it before its new expiration date, you will need to purchase another "CEU/CPD Add-On" to make another request. If the course is ineligible for approval with an accreditation body due to their subject-matter policies, it will be listed as "[Ineligible]", and no requests will be possible for the course.
