Course Overview
This is a Live Webinar event that will be held on June 2, 2026 - 5pm PDT, 8pm EDT.

There are a number of essential points in orthopedic and sports acupuncture. Treating the gluteus medius at the extraordinary point Jiankua is certainly one of these points. Whether for lumbosacral pain or pelvic stability, this is a must-know point.
And because the gluteus medius does not have a known acupunture meridian point on the muscle, it is often missed by the acupuncturist.

The gluteus medius stabiles the pelvis. When the muscle is weak, the pelvis drops on the opposite side of this weakness, creating imbalance and biomechanical issues. Pain and dysfunction result. To complicate matters, the gluteus medius has a referal pattern of pain throughout the lumbosacral region. While the muscle is on the Shaoyang line, referral pain is usually found in the Bladder channel region of the low back, hip, and sacrum.

The gluteus medius is prone to inhibition – it will "turn off" with any stressful circumstances. Thus, pelvic instability may be frequent and it may aggravate the pain syndromes. Additionally, muscle strain, tendinitis, and trigger points are common within the muscle itself.

All this results in pain and a muscle that needs to be treated. The region of the extraordinary point Jiankua is a very effective place to start. Located halfway between the greater trochanter and the iliac crest, it is easy to locate and ahshi is a great guide to finding the precise point.

Long and short, you need to know Jiankua if you treat back and hip pain!

The recordings will be made available for you to review after the event!
