Course Overview
This course is designed to further the lifelong learner's journey as they deepen their mastery of acupuncture point selections based on the profound information embedded in their classical names. Seasoned practitioners, students, and laypeople will all find value in this course.

Heiner Fruehauf will analyze the original meaning of each point name on the Spleen channel in its multilayered complexity. The ancient acupuncture point names not only serve as mnemonic reminders about the location of each point, but also contain significant information revealing the unique energetic qualities and highly specific physiology and pathology of each point.
Objective
  • Describe the symbolic nature of the Spleen channel and analyze the original meaning of the organ, meridian and point names in all their multilayered complexity including the cosmologic, energetic and physical viewpoints
  • Elucidate the symbolism and story of the ancient acupuncture point names that serve as mnemonic reminders about their location, contain significant information, and reveal their unique energetic qualities and highly specific physiology and pathology
  • Discuss the physiologic actions, pathologic presentations and clinical applications of the Spleen points represented by their name translations and their classical text indications with clinical and case examples
  • Present Spleen points so participants can understand how to hone their ability to select the most suitable points to effectively treat complex physical, mental/emotional and spiritual issues we encounter in our out-of-balance world.

    About Heiner Fruehauf

Heiner Fruehauf is the Founding Professor of the College of Classical Chinese Medicine at National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon, where he has been teaching since 1992. As a practitioner, Dr. Fruehauf focuses on the complementary treatment of difficult and recalcitrant diseases, including cancer, chronic respiratory and digestive disorders, and inflammation of the nervous system. His scholarly endeavors include an ongoing research project on the holistic cosmology of Chinese medicine, in essence a decoding of the ancient symbolism that once correlated the macrocosm of the natural world with the microcosm of the human body. In addition, Dr. Fruehauf founded Classical Pearls Herbal Formulas over a decade ago in order to bring the formulas used in his clinical practice to a more accessible form for clinicians. The endeavor has also allowed him to maintain control over ingredient sourcing, procurement, and processing in mainland China, including supporting small family farms who grow, harvest, and process many of the raw ingredients. Dr. Fruehauf is also the director of the Heron Institute, a nonprofit institution for the research and preservation of traditional life science. In this capacity, he has been leading the Sacred Mountain Retreat for three decades, a semiannual study tour to the mountains of southwest China that focuses on qigong and other aspects of classical Chinese medicine. He lives in the beautiful Columbia Gorge in Oregon with his wife, Sheron, their kids, 5 goats, 2 cats, and 11 chickens.

    *CEU/CPD Approvals

Some accreditation bodies have course approval expirations. If the approval expires, you will see a notice next to the name with a date of expiration: "[Until YYYY/MM/DD]". Please factor this date into your own renewal deadline. If an approval expires, you will be able to request that it is renewed and we will submit it for you within 2 business days. Renewals normally come back to us after 30 days. If your accreditation body is not listed under the "Approved" section, you may find it under the "Pending" section. That means that it is either currently pending approval, or that it is available for you to request: "[Upon Request]". New course approvals usually come back to us after 45 days. We use an automated system within our platform that allows you to make these requests in an easy and convenient way. Just visit the course page in your Net of Knowledge account and click the "Request Approval" button at the top. Each "Course and CEUs/CPDs" purchase grants you 1 request per accreditation body. If you request a course approval and do not complete it before its new expiration date, you will need to purchase another "CEU/CPD Add-On" to make another request. If the course is ineligible for approval with an accreditation body due to their subject-matter policies, it will be listed as "[Ineligible]", and no requests will be possible for the course.
