The use of MIT as a chemical water preservative since 2001 is out-of-control. It has been allowed to reach the absurdly high concentration of 100 parts per million (ppm) even after it's mother product CMIT:MIT, with its much lower proportion of 15 ppm MIT, showed disturbingly high rates of Skin and Lung Allergies in exposed consumers.
MIT is out-of-control because it is in so many product categories. In 2001, MIT started as an industrial preservative in Paint. Unfortunately Allergy reports were ignored and MIT was then introduced to Cosmetics and Personal products in 2005. This was a disaster considering that Cosmetics and products such as Sunscreen, are LEAVE-ON products, absorbed directly into the Skin!
MIT is out-of-control because industry regulation is lacking. Paint manufacturers are allowed to 'self-regulate' the amount of MIT added to their Paints, with the result that exposure to Paint fumes accounts for 50% of all MIT-based Contact Dermatitis cases.
MIT is out-of-control because the medical screening test, the Patch Test, is applied to CMIT:MIT only, and not to MIT alone, leading to misdiagnosis. The main treatment for Allergic reactions - trigger avoidance – is impossible if patients have not been medically diagnosed properly. There needs to be a lot more public education about MIT so that people can select safer product substitutes.

About Sue Nelson
Sue Nelson B.A, B.TCM has been a passionate researcher in a range of eclectic healing therapies since her Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) training in the 1980s. Describing herself as a ‘country girl’, Sue has been in continuous clinical practice in the Noosa hinterland for the best part of 3 decades. Teaching accomplishments include the delivery of several TCM subjects at 2 prominent Brisbane Acupuncture colleges in the mid-1990s. Sue was the foundation lecturer for the first intake of Acupuncture students at the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences (AIAS) in 1995. Her compilation of curriculum lesson plans for the year 1 and 2 TCM subjects formed the foundation for all subsequent lecture material at the college. Sue’s clinic style remains a mix of traditional and musculo-skeletal approaches incorporating Acupuncture, Infrared heat therapy, Chinese Massage and Chinese Herbal formula prescribing. She also offers cell detoxification protocols based on Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis charts and other cross-pollinating disciplines. Sue’s other passion is writing, both fiction and non-fiction. She is looking forward to completing her book on Thyroid function, written from an holistic viewpoint incorporating historical, western medicine, chinese medicine and naturopathic perspectives, with surprising conclusions. Some accreditation bodies have course approval expirations. If the approval expires, you will see a notice next to the name with a date of expiration: "[Until YYYY/MM/DD]". Please factor this date into your own renewal deadline. If an approval expires, you will be able to request that it is renewed and we will submit it for you within 2 business days. Renewals normally come back to us after 30 days. If your accreditation body is not listed under the "Approved" section, you may find it under the "Pending" section. That means that it is either currently pending approval, or that it is available for you to request: "[Upon Request]". New course approvals usually come back to us after 45 days. We use an automated system within our platform that allows you to make these requests in an easy and convenient way. Just visit the course page in your Net of Knowledge account and click the "Request Approval" button at the top. Each "Course and CEUs/CPDs" purchase grants you 1 request per accreditation body. If you request a course approval and do not complete it before its new expiration date, you will need to purchase another "CEU/CPD Add-On" to make another request. If the course is ineligible for approval with an accreditation body due to their subject-matter policies, it will be listed as "[Ineligible]", and no requests will be possible for the course.
